What is Pack?
Pack is the new website to capture and share the everyday moments in your dog’s life. Because with a dog by your side, you are never alone.
Pack knows what you know: that dogs are family. Our dogs wake us up with a wag in the morning and welcome us home at the end of a long day. In the middle of our hectic schedules and human drama, dogs remind us that life can be simple and love can be easy.
It’s an opportunity to capture the everyday dog moments in your life and organize them into a gorgeous online lookbook just for your dog. Don’t keep your dog photos hidden on your phone, and don’t worry about your Facebook friends calling you dog obsessed... Pack is the place where your dog gets to have his name in lights.
What is the Snack app?
Snack is Pack's very first iPhone app!
It's bite-sized app that delivers a fresh batch of Pack's must-see Editor's Picks dog photos to your pocket, just once a day. You decide when you want to receive your Snack. Choose morning, noon, or night -- or set your own custom time. Wake up to dog photos, take a break for a lunchtime smile, or wind down with a Snack before bed.
Dogs remind us that life can be simpler than we make it. Snack delivers one minute of happy, right when you need it.
We built Snack in 4 days and released it just for fun. It's a super simple little app to tide you over while we continue working on our main Pack app. We hope you like it!
You can download Snack for free from the iTunes App Store. (Sorry, no Android yet).
Bonus: Post your favorite dog moments to Pack in order to get your own dog featured in a future Snack!
Can I add all my dogs to Pack? (Hint: Of course!)
Add every dog in your family to Pack. One dog at a time. The gang's all here!
You'll start by designing a profile for one dog. When you're done with that one, you can move on to your next dog and design his or her profile. And so on. Just look for the [+Add a Dog] button in your Account dropdown and in other places throughout the site.
Or click here! packdog.com/add-dog
* You can add up to 10 dogs. (Wow, you have a lot of dogs!). That's the limit, because most people don't have more dogs than that, and because Pack isn't meant to be a place for breeders or shelters to advertise their dogs for adoption. We're not Petfinder or a classifieds platform. Pack is meant for people who have loved dogs that they've already adopted into their homes. Of course, we love all you breeders and rescue organizations, and we'd be honored to have your own dogs or your friends' and clients' dogs here with you on Pack! We're also delighted to work with organizations via our PackLoves program -- that's the best way for breeders and rescues to get the most out of Pack, bar none.
I see some really fancy profiles! How can I make mine look prettier? :)
It's really fun to make your dog look like a hero!
Here are a bunch of profile editing and design tips from Pack's very own designer John Henry Müller.
Can I add a 'co-owner' human for my dog?
Does someone else call your dog "their dog" as well? Now you can add a 'co-owner' to share your dog's profile. (Of course, we all know we don't own our dogs. They own us!). For example, Tera the Siberian Husky mix is lucky enough to be loved by two humans in her family. They can both edit her profile and, going forward, can both post updates to this dog's page.
To add a human: login to Pack, go to your dog's profile, look for the 'Add a human to this dog' link and enter the email address of another person in your family who loves this dog. They will get an email with a chance to claim your dog as theirs too.
What are Messages?
We built Messages to make it easy for you to connect with the coolest dog people online. Messages allows Pack members to directly communicate with each other, one-to-one.
When a Pack member sends you a message, you'll see an unread message indicator by your name in the top right corner of the Pack website. You'll also receive an email from Pack that contains the content of the message.
Read more about Pack Messages on the Pack blog.
How do I send a Message to a user?
To start a new conversation with a Pack user, click the button on their human page on Pack. You can find a user's human page by clicking their name above their dog's post, or by clicking their name in the statbox on their dog's profile.
To continue a conversation with someone you've already messaged, visit packdog.com/messages or click your name at the top of Pack, then click Messages.
How do I reply to a message?
You can reply to a message directly through your email. Just reply as you normally would to any email. You can also reply on the Pack website at packdog.com/messages.
How do I turn off email notifications for Messages?
If you don't want to receive an email when you receive a Message, turn Message Notifications "off" at packdog.com/settings#emails
Can I send Messages using Pack's iOS app?
It is currently not possible to initiate a new message using Pack's iOS app. However, you can reply to Messages via email on your mobile device.
Is there any way to see who has loved my dog?
Yes! There's something so genuine and simple about it -- you're out on a walk, you see a dog you admire and you go out of your way to say to someone (even a total stranger): Hey, I like your dog. The same happens on Pack.
You can love any dog by giving her a 'heart' on Pack. You can also see a list of all the humans who have liked a dog. (Who likes yours?). Go to a dog's profile page and click on the number underneath the heart to see a list of everyone who has loved her. Then go see their dogs too! For example, see all the people who love this crazy little chihuahua Gizmo.
My Instagram photos aren't importing to Pack. Help!
First, make sure you've turned this feature on on by visiting http://packdog.com/settings/instagram.
If this page indicates that your Instagram and Pack accounts are connected and your posts still aren't showing up, make sure that you're using your dog(s) hashtags in the original caption of your post not in a comment on your post. Hashtags added in later comments will not work.
Also, keep in mind that after enabling this feature, only new posts going forward will be imported to Pack. We can't go back through your old posts and pull them in to Pack.
If you still have problems, scroll down to the bottom of this FAQ page and send us a note. We'll get it fixed!
How do I edit my dog's circle avatar? (Not the main profile photo).
Easy as cake. Or is it pie.
1. Login to your Pack account. (But then, you knew that part).
2. Go to your Settings (from your top toolbar)
3. Then go to Manage Your Dogs.
4. Then select the Update Avatar item in the menu next to your dog. (screenshot)
5. Upload a photo of your dog, any photo! Doesn't have to be the same photo as the profile page. Make sure to crop it. We will apply the nice little round circle effect when you're done!
6. That's it. :)
How do I edit or delete a post?
If you notice a mistake in a post, you'll need to delete it and add it again.
To delete a post, first click on the post you want to delete from your home feed or from your dog's profile page. Then click the little "X" button that's next to the "comment" and "love" button. Easy peasy.
The delete button looks like this:
How do I edit my Human bio on Pack?
Behind every dog is a good human. Humans have their own space on Pack, too. It's small but cozy. Make sure you go to your Settings and update your human bio. Add a link to a site that represents you or your dog online, like your Twitter profile, blog, Facebook, business, whatever you want. And change your avatar to a photo of your good side. If you don't upload an avatar, we'll show a colorful circle with the first letter of your name.
How can I edit the hometown on my dog's profile?
1. Edit your dog's profile.
2. Then click the pencil edit icon that you see on your dog's statsbox. (screenshot)
3. That will open a form where you can edit everything in the statsbox. Including location. (screenshot)
4. Some people have mentioned that in Canada, and various place in the UK, the postal code means that you can narrow it down to only a few houses and then go and steal someone's dog. (What kind of miscreants would do that! What wankers!). Until we can remove that section programmatically, you can very easily remove your own postal code following the steps above. You can change your location to say anything you want it to say. But we encourage real-enough places, like San Diego, CA as opposed to "My dog lives in my dirty laundry." We'll be doing really fun stuff based on city location in the future.
What is the optimal photo size for my dog's main profile page?
For best results (in a shining, wonderful, perfect world):
1. Landscape orientation is best. Vertical images don't size well for our landscape dog profile format.
2. Use 1000px x 600px photos for best results.
Smaller photos can also work, we will automatically blow them up to fullscreen and apply a kind of romantic effect over them to help them from looking too fuzzy. For example, this photo was a little small and fuzzy, but it looks really good even when blown up to fit the profile. This photo was a nice high-res large photo so it looks sharp and clear.
I'm on a mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android, etc). How can I edit my dog's profile?
We don't currently have image replacement or fancy profile editing on mobile. Pack is totally responsive on mobile, which means the pages are readable and look pretty, but our editing tools are definitely lacking. We are working on the smoothest way to handle this, but you can update your dog's profile any time using a regular ol' full sized computer! (Old school, right?)
My dog has a Secret Admirer! Who is it?!
If someone loves your dog when they are not logged in to Pack, or if they don’t have a Pack account, they are shown as a Secret Admirer. We felt it was important for everyone to be able to love a dog or a post if they came across the photo on the internet (through a Facebook post, or through the Snack app), just as they would if they saw her walking down the sidewalk. : )
What do I do if my dog passes away?
First. We're so sorry to hear that you lost a dog. :( We know exactly how rough that can be. Dogs are family and we miss them like hell when they're gone.
Some of the sweetest profiles on Pack are actually tribute pages to dogs of days past. You can edit the tagline or the location to reflect whatever memorial statement you'd like. Here are a few examples:
In an effort to make this sad time a little gentler on you, we've created an easy way for you to "Memorialize" your dog's account here on Pack. Just go to Manage Dogs in your Settings page and select the Say Goodbye option from the dropdown menu for that dog.
This will add a sweet little memorial flower on your dog's profile page and will also pause all Notification or Newsletter emails you might have been getting about your dog.
Our hope is that it can feel good to have a dog live on in this little way.
I see a Pack profile or Pack Post that is using my copyrighted photo. What do I do?
Aiyayai. If the profile is using a copyrighted photo that you can demonstrate as yours, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We'll take the content down and zap the account quickly. Swiper no swiping!
What are Campus Packs?
We believe in Take Your Dog To Work Day, every day. Work is better, meetings go faster, and people smile more when there are dogs afoot. Pack is launching “Campus Packs” for a select group of dog-friendly workplaces we love. Each company gets its very own Campus Pack and a special invite link that you can send out to your employees and friends at work. That lets them design beautiful homepages for their dogs and join your company's very own custom Pack. Like an "office pack" available to your work friends by invite only. Campus Packs are a fun way to follow along with the adventures of your officemates and their dogs. Good vibes, good culture, yay for dogs! If you know a company that loves having dogs in the office, please send this to them post-haste! Packdog.com/campus.
How can I invite coworkers to my company's Campus Pack?
If you work at a company that is lucky enough to a) have an awesome dog-friendly office and b) already has a Campus Pack... hooray! You're in the right place.
If you're not the admin who set up the Pack, find out who is and they can give you a special invitation link to share around.
Or, you can just send your work friends to your Campus Pack page and they should see a "Request to Join" button halfway down the page. That will let them create a quick Pack account and send a special request to your Campus admin.
How can I invite friends who don't work at my company?
Campus Packs were designed to feature the humans and dogs who work at a specific company. So you need to work there in order to get into their Pack.
Have friends at another company who want their own office dogs Pack? Send them here: packdog.com/campus.
Have friends who just want to add their dogs to the main Pack site? Great! You can *always* invite your friends to Pack, regardless of where they work. Just send them your personal invite link that you can find here: http://packdog.com/invite. When someone joins from your invite link, you automatically Track their dogs and they automatically Track yours!
Where does the General keep his armies?
